Yes, I am suggesting you try making and tasting a green smoothie! Why you ask? Because it’s good for you and easy to make! Loaded with leafy greens, which are nutrient packed and full of important minerals like calcium, the health benefits are extensive. The leafy greens and turmeric in this smoothie also help reduce inflammation in the body (which can lead to things like acne, heart disease, joint pain, etc). These greens also stimulate the liver, promoting regular detoxification of harmful substances from the body and keep your bowel movements regular. This smoothie is perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a healthy snack.
I originally got the idea for this smoothie from http://www.nourishingmeals.com/p/recipes.html (a fantastic recipe blog that I frequently recommend to patients for healthy, easy, and nutritious meals), and then added a couple of extra things.
Hope you give it a try and tell me what you think!
Green Smoothie Recipe:
-4 leaves of Swiss chard (you could substitute kale, dandelion, or collard greens here or in place of the cabbage)
-3 cabbage leaves
-8-10 blueberries
– 1 Granny Smith apple
-1 kiwi
-2-4 cups of water (depending on the consistency you like)
-1 inch piece of ginger root
-1 teaspoon of turmeric
-2 tablespoons of shelled hemp seeds (you can get these at your health food store or substitute with flax, sesame, or pumpkin seeds)
-add the ingredients to your blender and blend to your desired consistency. If it’s too thick for you, you can always add more water to thin it out. Enjoy!
