Did you know pomegranates are one of the most healing of fruits? The health benefits of pomegranates stem from their high concentration of antioxidant- rich polyphenols. Research has shown that pomegranates can:
- Lower blood pressure
- Lower LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) and increase HDL (the good cholesterol)
- Fight against cancer (particularly breast, prostate, colon, lung, and skin cancers)
- Lower blood sugar in diabetes
- Boost the immune system
- Decrease arthritis pain in rheumatoid arthritis
So considering adding a daily dose of pomegranate to your diet! One word of caution: pomegranate juice can be high in sugar. The American Heart Association recommends a sugar intake less than 24 grams a day (and some juices have more than 30 grams per serving-more than your daily requirement!). If consuming pomegranate juice, watch the sugar content and consider diluting the juice with water in a 50/50 ratio.
